Autumn Poems

These are original PineTreePoet Autumn poems. They were all written beneath orange and yellow and red canopies, walking along chilly trails, or sitting in front of a big slice of vegan pumpkin pie. Please share this list of Autumn-themed poems with those friends and family whose favorite season is the one I think has the most character.

Autumn is my favorite season to run, hike, wander, eat, and relax. It’s the colors, the flavors, and that Fall smell in the air. To me, Autumn is the season with the best sensations, and abounding inspiration.

The cold eases over us

just night times and mornings

its arrival gives me happy

Nobody is too shy

to shy away

from an offer

of warm pumpkin pie.

Recipes calling for pumpkin

and little tealight candles

pepita pans plenty

carving knives

with bright orange handles.

We don’t give gifts for Halloween

because the whole season

is an orange and red and yellow

leaf-wrapped box

of immaterial joy.

Wood spirits

love the fall,

the carving of the gourd.

They watch from nearby canopy

the closest apparition

they can afford.

Ghosts say Boo!

to frighten you and me

and I don’t think

I’d have it any other way.

Let’s make it a whole month

instead of just that single, spooky day.

Boy it sure is chilly

tonight under Autumn’s gaze

and the sun is setting quickly

like an evening

pumpkin blaze.

We’re winding endlessly

through orange and yellow

wind-washed seas,

pines and mossy boulders,

and that fiery mountain-brushing breeze

hardly warm and inviting

it’s more like Summer’s

and Autumn’s come upon me

I’m happy and numb

shortening days’

Kindness in Autumn

is something crisper

than the other kindnesses.

We all need

a chilly mountain

Autumn drive

it’s really something

to make us question

why we’re alive.

The sunset stole the wind

her breath seemed quite dull

beneath the oranges and pinks and yellows

of an evening in mountainous fall.

I though nothing of her cold kisses

on my all-day hiking cheeks

the sun was setting quickly

and painting her forever reverent peaks.

I’d like to go

for an Autumn run

and keep running

in some

forever Autumn.

October is gone away

another twelfth closer to winter

soon the clocks will take their step

and the jolly axe will splinter.

In the foothills

they’ll have their first snow

soon Earth’s finest colors

the cold wind

and ornamented pine

will stow.
